If you can’t change your situation…

…change your situation.

Yes, I left my job at the height of what is likely to be absolutely the worst period in our lifetimes to seek employment.

But I didn’t leave a job just to get another one.  I left because I am certain that I can create and provide much more value to the world by exploring other opportunities that more closely parallel my talents, passions and goals.  Like Red said to Andy: “Get busy living, or get busy dying.” I’m choosing to get busy living; living richly with those I love.

Echoing the words of an anonymous Confederate soldier:

I asked God for strength that I might achieve.
I was made weak that I might learn humbly to obey.
I asked for health that I might do greater things.
I was given infirmity that I might do better things.
I asked for riches that I might be happy.
I was given poverty that I might be wise.
I asked for power that I might have the praise of men.
I asked for all things that I might enjoy life.
I was given life that I might enjoy all things.
I got nothing that I asked for, but everything I hoped for.
Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered.
I am, among all men, most richly blessed.

See ya soon, friends.

Well stated. Time unfortunately did not present an opportunity for us to meet at HSR, but I sincerely empathize with your rationale for leaving. Ditto. I'm sure you will be greatly missed, as you were highly regarded. I wish you all the best in your new ventures.
  • Thanks for checking in, Todd. As someone with firsthand knowledge of and experience in the situation, I extend my empathy to you as well. I hope that you did not neglect your family, friends and health to the extent that I did but that assumption is probably inherently flawed. ;) Best wishes to you in your future endeavors as well. I hear that we have a mutual friend at RealArt (Gobrail) - small world!

Thanks. Yes...very small world! Jenn's awesome. Now that I think about it, she did mention that she had a friend that was interviewing at GyroHSR about the time that you came aboard. Well, I totally hope all health and attention is restored in the necessary priority areas. I applaud you for making it happen. I spent 4 years neglecting my my family, friends and self. Although my wife would probably argue that I'm still working too much. I'll get this balance thing figured out before long ;) All the best. T.
  • Nick - I'm so glad to hear this and I love the Shawshank reference. We welcome you back (of course) with open arms! Let's catch up soon.
  • Thanks, TE. Name the day and time and I'll see you at Heine Bros. :) Looking forward to it very much!
