I work with designers, developers, and business stakeholders to solve problems, grow business, and build awesome things.

As a digital strategist, I have designed and implemented web-based initiatives for some of the biggest brands in Louisville and around the globe.  As a contributing architect to the online customer experience at Papa John’s, Norton Healthcare and Yum! Brands, I’ve built a career by prescribing the right balance and interactions among marketing, technology and business objectives.

Marketing, Technology, Business: where I liveI am fortunate to have encountered a wide variety of business experiences from several startups, small businesses, and the Fortune 500.  These professional and personal experiences during my journey have been invaluable: the ‘what not to do’ lessons have been just as rewarding as the ‘best practices’ I’ve absorbed.

The degrees in Economics and Spanish from Centre College and the MBA with a focus in Entrepreneurship from the University of Louisville afford me some perspective, but I remain most indebted to my experiences in the 42 states and 18 other countries I’ve visited. As I’ve come to profess to many, “It’s hard to see the picture when you’re inside the frame.”

The ability to see the world in new ways is my most cherished gift.

“I am part of all that I have met;
Yet all experience is an arch wherethro’
Gleams that untravell’d world whose margin fades
For ever and for ever when I move.”
- Alfred, Lord Tennyson

    Nick, I am a fellow creative versatilist. I have a question regarding salary negotiating from this position. I possess substantial skills in sales/marketing, IT, and business development. I also possess functional skills in graphics design, web design and management, and virtually all facets of business (skills acquired as an entrepreneur with 2 software related companies and having gone through the investigative start-up phase with other prospective ventures)

    I am being offered a position with a small but growing medical device company with few employees. I will be employing all of the skills listed above and have no idea what a reasonable salary would be to negotiate for. Any insight you have on this would be so greatly appreciated.

    it might be helpful to know that I have no degree and 3 years of experience. The title of the position as advertised is “project manager” as a temporary 9 month assignment. I am meeting with the owner of the company monday for the first time in my final interview to negotiate salary. I will be leveraging my skills against his needs to secure a regular full time assignment (hopefully, i can't see how not).

    So that is where I will be starting negotiations from

    Hey, Josh – thanks for reaching out. Truth be told, there are probably several factors to consider in your negotiations: experience, location / cost of living, previous salary, value of your benefits, value of options/equity in the growing company… Sorry to be vague about specific numbers, but I don't have much context to consider so like any good consultant would say, “it depends.” :)
